Admissions procedures for Year 7 entry, September 2011 and beyond – your chance to have your say.
For year 7 entry in 2011, our admissions procedures remain as they have been for many years, namely, we test in November, after the deadline for the return of the preference forms to your own Borough. The date for testing this year is Saturday 20th November 2010. Please see below for our draft admissions policy and supplementary form for 2011 entry.
However, some local selective schools have already moved to early testing, and others are planning to do so.
We do not favour testing so soon after the summer holidays, and prefer to test later to allow the maximum time for development in year 6 (especially for summer born boys). Also, we worry that boys might become overloaded with tests within a very short space of time, thus tiring them and not allowing them to demonstrate their true potential.
But what do you think? Would you rather have your son tested early so that you know whether or not he is eligible for a place here before you complete your preference form? Would you like your son to sit a very early “pre-test” to rule him (potentially) in or (definitely) out, with those clearing this hurdle completing a fuller test later in the year? Would you rather our testing procedures stayed as they are?
We’d love to hear your views, especially if you have a son who is due to transfer to secondary school in 2012 (the first cohort who will be affected by any changes we make). But any interested party is welcome to comment.
E-mail your comments to admissions-sgs@suttonlea.org putting “testing changes” in the subject line. |

Sixth Form Admissions
At Sixth-Form level, all boys must meet a minimum level of overall success at GCSE. Entry is based on competitive grades, and priority is always given to boys already at the school. For new admissions to the school, places will be determined by the rank order of examination results and are subject to the availability of places on individual subject courses. All applicants, both internal and external, will be invited to discuss subject choices.
The Sixth Form Open Evening for entry in September 2011 to be announced.
Year 11 students from other schools who would like to join our Sixth Form in September 2011 are invited to join our own year 11 students to hear presentations from the Headmaster and the Head of Sixth Form, to meet subject tutors and students, and to see the school.
