Trips and Exchanges

We offer an ever greater number of trips abroad: In Year 7, trips take place to the Rhineland and Normandy, and to Spain in Year 8.

Year 10 sees the German exchange with the Schillerschule in Frankfurt, and in Year 12, students have the chance of gaining work experience in France.

Key Stage 3

French, German and Spanish are taught at Key Stage 3.  There are four forms at entry and two of these forms take German and two take French in Year 7. In Year 8 all forms continue with their first language and pick up a second language.  Boys have more lessons in their second language throughout Year 8 and Year 9 so that by the end of Year 9 they are at the same level in their two chosen languages.
A National Curriculum Assessment is carried out by teachers at the end of Year 9.
Boys are expected to reach National Curriculum Level 6 by the end of Year 9.

Staff

There are six members of staff, two of whom work part-time.
Two Foreign Language Assistants are employed each year.

INSPIRATIONS MAGAZINE

The Inspirations magazine is a multi-language, collaborative 'exchange' magazine, pioneered by Sutton Grammar School in conjunction with several schools on the continent, and provides an excellent way for language students at our school to work with other students in schools across Europe.
