For a few days at the beginning of this month, we had the opportunity as first-year Geography A level students to explore the scenic coast of Platja d’Aro as we learnt how to conduct fieldwork. Guided by Barry, we applied different sampling methods to measure everything from pebble weight, beach height to plant populations. On our final day, we conducted human fieldwork at the heart of Girona, hearing about the city’s significant historical importance and how that has transitioned to a bustling tourist destination. The rich mediaeval architecture paired with the strong culture made for an insightful and educational day out, as well as a memorable experience for all of us.

Four days, multiple breathtaking hikes and plenty of fun facts from Barry later, we were all left totally inspired to plan out our own inquiries and use a range of ways of collecting and displaying data to contribute towards our own independent investigations.
