SGS Library Blog – October 2021

SGS Library Blog – October 2021

This term the Library blog will be monthly – here is a round-up of some of the interesting book related events and features that are on offer during October

October is Black History Month

To celebrate Black History Month, The Reading Agency https://readingagency.org.uk/ has produced a list of 86 brilliant books for children and young adults by Black authors and illustrators. The list is saved in pdf form in the BLM folder in the LIBRARY section on the ‘P’ drive.  It includes books for primary age which might be useful if you have younger siblings, but scroll further down for books with an older age group interest range. The BLM folder is also where you’ll find a number of lists of reading material available in the SGS Library, SORA and the British Libraries Consortium.

The British Library also has some great resources including a ‘Black Literature Timeline’.

Below, are two new books in the Library BLM collection for you to borrow!

World Space Week is celebrated between 4-10 October each year. This year the theme is Women in Space. More information about women in space can be found on the NASA website. https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/research/news/whm-recent-female-astronauts

There is also a new fantasy novel available in the Library written by British astronaut Tim Peake.
