Pupils should be able to:

  • name, locate and describe the function of the organs of a flowering plant
  • name, locate and describe the function of the tissues of a leaf
  • know that food is made in leaves and stored as starch
  • know the test for starch
  • know that starch is found in leaves
  • know that light is necessary for photosynthesis
  • know what a fair comparison is
  • be able to link fair test to an evaluation of an experimental set up
  • know that carbon dioxide is needed for photosynthesis
  • know how to destarch a plant
  • know the definition of the term control
  • know that oxygen is produced during photosynthesis
  • recognise how to measure the rate of photosynthesis
  • describe the role of stomata
  • know the word equation for photosynthesis
  • know that chlorophyll is in chloroplasts and is the photosynthetic pigment that makes leaves green
  • know the route that water and carbon dioxide take to reach the palisade cells
  • recognise other uses of the glucose produced in photosynthesis other than storage
