Key Stage 3 - Music

Pupils study all Music through the three core skills in Music:

  • Composing
  • Performing
Musical Understanding (Listening, Theory & Aural)

We believe that with practical, first-hand experience pupils gain a better understanding of the process of music.

How we assess your son's progress in KS3

Your son is assessed on three core skills in Music:

  • Composing
  • Performing
  • Musical Understanding (Listening, Theory & Aural)

Each project that the students study will include tests in these core skills and as well as an overall level in music, he will receive assessment grades and report comments for each of these core skills. Your son will be given a SGS music department level each term in music in line with the national curriculum for Music. Your son's grades are collected and recorded in each project and through all three core skills.

Please refer to the curriculum pages for information on what your son will be studying.
