Year 8 Interdependence
Learning Objectives

Pupils should be able to:

  1. Explain how food chains within a habitat can be combined into food webs.
  2. Explain that energy is transferred between organisms in food chains and webs.
  3. Relate the abundance and distribution of organisms to the resources available within a habitat.
  4. Represent this using pyramids of number.
  5. Explain why photosynthesis is important for humans.
  6. Explain why maximising human food production can significantly affect other animals and plants.  Understand the idea of sustainable development.
  7. Explain how the abundance and distribution of organisms may be affected by pesticides, weed killers and the accumulation of toxins.
  8. Explain that habitats change in response to changes in physical, chemical and biological factors.
  9. Describe a model for the whole environment that recognises how the materials that make up all living organisms are recycled, and that energy from sunlight flows through this system.
  10. Explain how predation affects population size.
  11. Give examples of organisms and ways in which they are adapted to survive daily and seasonal changes.
