Sutton Grammar School

Special Educational Needs & Disabilities

Sutton Grammar School aims to meet the Special Educational Needs of pupils in our school as defined in our school’s Special Educational Needs and Disability Policy.

If a learner is identified as having SEN, we will make adjustments and provide measures that are ‘additional to or different from’ the normal differentiated curriculum, intending to remove barriers to their learning.

A child or young person has SEN if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for them. A child of compulsory school age or a young person has a learning difficulty or disability if they:

1. Have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age: or

2. Have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools or mainstream post-16 institutions.
SEND Code of Practice (2014)

The kinds of special educational needs and disabilities that are provided for in our school are those arising from difficulties with:

  • Cognition and Learning
  • Communication and Interaction
  • Social Emotional and Mental Health
  • Sensory and/or Physical needs

For students currently at our school, concerns or needs should be raised with the form tutor or direct with the SENDCO (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator), Miss Mariam Mahmoud (email: mariammahmoud@suttongrammar.school or telephone: 0208 642 3821). For 2023/2024, please contact the Assistant SENDCO, Mr James Tuck (email: jamestuck@suttongrammar.school or telephone 020 8642 3821 x229).

For students joining the school in the next academic year and those considering applying in the future, please contact our school registrar in the first instance:

Email: admissions@suttongrammar.school or telephone:  0208 642 3821
